Chiffon & Georgette

Here you can find lightweight and translucent silk fabrics such as chiffon, georgette, organza and the like. Organza differs from the others above mentioned mainly in behavior - while chiffon is soft and loose, organza is stiff and rough to the touch. Chiffon is often confused with georgette, but chiffon is softer and has more luster than georgette.

Silk blend serge (or twill) is a medium weight fabric woven using the twill weave, which is instantly recognizable by its diagonal pattern. Twill is supple and drapes well but is fairly sturdy and resistant. Silk serge is a favorite lining for blazers, jackets, and other garments. But this version, with its blend of silk and cotton, has slightly different qualities; it is thicker, less “slippery,” and has a matte appearance. So it is better suited as a stand-alone material for blouses, shirts, skirts, dresses, and scarves.

Care: We recommend dry cleaning this fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. In our tests this fabric stood up to gentle hand washing, but shrank slightly due to the cotton content. If you risk hand washing, use lukewarm water and a delicate detergent for woolens; do not wring or squeeze dry; block dry on a flat surface. Dry iron on the lowest setting. Avoid water droplets.
