Noil silk (also known as raw silk or bourette) is woven from the short fibers that are left when silk cocoons are processed. Although it is comes from salvaged material, it retains the wonderful qualities of silk. The bourettes are light and soft, they breathe and are comfortable to wear. They tend not to be as smooth and shiny as classic filament silk.

Noil has the look of a plain-woven linen, but is softer and more supple. The weave displays slight slubs and irregularities that lend it a rustic, natural look. It is great for garment making as well as interior decor; try it for trousers, jackets, skirts, dresses, pillowcases, and curtains. Noil is affordable and easy to work with, even for novice sewers.
