This replica is unusual, not only for its production technique, but for its unconventional pattern. The radiant cloud motif is drawn from Muslim symbolism – often labelled in medieval sources as “Saracen” – and represents supernatural power. However, it is the motif of swallows flying among nests with three hatchlings that dominates here. Ornamental butterflies perched on oak branches and bunches of acorns and oak leaves complement the design. The combination is highly unusual for this era, yet the result is harmonious and well balanced.

This fabric is made up of top-quality materials. Pure silk is interwoven with metallic threads coated in real gold! This is not run-of-the-mill Lurex, a mere imitation of gold thread. The exquisite metallic thread makes this weave supple, fine, and light, and the gold pattern will never lose its shine. The gold thread is exposed on the back of the fabric, so use of a lining is recommended. We offer this material in both wine red and blue.

The original fabric is in a museum collection in Vienna.

Note: Because this fabric is woven by hand, minor binding errors may occur. These slight imperfections should not be regarded as defects in the fabric, but as a natural feature of manual production.
