We include both habutai and paj in one category as these fabrics are very similar, only paj is lighter. Habutai means “soft as down” in japanese and ineed it is a smooth, limp, lightweight, non-transparent silk fabric in plain weave. It varies in weights from 5mm to 10mm, 8mm being the most common, thus it is lighter then shantung but heavier then chiffon. Our 100% silk habutai is a soft, limp and smooth fabric offering a tremendously different feel then the more usual synthetic versions. As other silks, habutai is lighter, brighter in colors and offers great permeability and thermoregulation. Other names: China silk, habotai
