How to take your body measurements

How to take your body measurements How to take your body measurements
To measure yourself properly, you'll need some assistance. Don't try to measure yourself on your own, your posture while taking the measurements might change and you might take wrong numbers. Before the measuring, tie a string around your waist (the slimmest part of the torso) - this will be your natural waistline and you will use this waistline placement for taking other measurements, no matter if you think your real waistline is lower.
The seventh cervical vertebra is the vertebra that protrudes when you bend your head forward. It is a very useful point for taking some measurements; bend the head only when finding this point, not when measuring!
BH - body height
GL - garment length - for shirts and blouses, measure from the seventh cervical vertebra across the back down to your desired length, for longer garments or garments starting at the waist such as skirts, dresses, cloaks, and tunics measure from the waist down.
BC - bust circumference - around the bust/chest, crossing the bust points and parallel to the floor.
WC - waist circumference - around your natural waist (the place where you tied the string, the slimmest part of the torso) and parrallel to the floor. If your garment has a visible waistline and you want it lower than your natural waist, do measure the natural waistline AND the desired waistline and tell us how many centimetres lower your desired waistline is.
HC - hip circumference - around the hip at its fullest point, the largest circumference of the pelvis, measured horizontally.
NC - neck circumference - around the base of the neck.
SL - shoulder length - from the side of the neck base to the top of the shoulder (or shoulder point) - this is the place where the sleeves will be attached to. If you cannot decide, take a rather smaller number.
AL - arm length - from the side of the neck base across the top of the shoulder to wrist, measured on a slightly bent arm.
BL - back length - from the seventh cervical vertebra to waist.
BD - bust depth - from the seventh cervical vertebra across the side of the neck to the bust point. If you cannot decide, take the smaller number.
FL - front length - measured the same way as bust depth, going across the bust point to the waist.
AC - arm circumference - the maximum circumference of the bicep, usually near the armpit.
BW - back width - the horizontal distance across the back measured from one armscye to the other, at the level where the arms meet the body.
W - wrist circumference
CD - crotch depth - while sitting on a hard, flat surface, measure straight down from the waist at the side of the body to the flat surface.
